There Are Survivors: The Michael Cuccione Story

Michael Will Live Forever In My Heart
Like most fans, I first saw Michael on 2Gether. I loved the concept and went to work on finding out more info on Mike and the show. Of course, Mike was my favorite, not just be cause he was cute, but I loved his personality. Once I learned that he, in fact, did have cancer, I was shocked. I ordered his book and read it. I am only 14, but I could only imagine the pain that he must have gone through. I had signed up for many fan newsletters and egroups that involved him and I was even thinking about starting a website dedicated to Mike. One day, I signed on to AOL and read that Michael had died. Even though I had never met Michael, I felt grief for him. He was very strong and his light will live on forever. I have a sort of tribute in my locker at school which is dedicated to Michael. I also gave magnets that I made to all my friends to put in their lockers so everyone can see what an impact he had on others. He prooved that you CAN fight something that's going against you. I reccomend you all to buy this book and learn the story.

there are survivors: The Michael cuccione story
On January 4 2001, my 15 year old son and I were in for a check up at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. Justin was diagnosed with leukemia June of 1997. During that appointment we met up with another family who we had gone through chemotherapy with. This other child had relapsed and had just had a stem cell transplant. While visiting with them I noticed a book they were reading. It was "There Are Survivors", they expressed a great comfort and joy in reading it. After leaving the hospital we bought our copy. Immediatley while reading, I was overcome with emotion on the strong personality of each of the family members, and the support each had for each other. As a mother who has helped her child fight to live, I could not have told the story any other way. The story was told from a loving and strong heart. I learned of Michaels' death before I had finished his story. Michael was a gift from God. Each person who reads his story will remember Michael from his incrediable positive and strong personality who touched many hearts. Each person who takes a moment to get to know Michael by reading his book, will always have a special spot in thier heart to cherish him.

One of the best books ever!
I truely do believe this is one of the best books ever written. You can see right into Michael's life as he struggles with cancer, which threatens to kill him many times. The book is set up in a "diary" format, with actual exerpts from his grandmother's diary. At the end of the book, there are lyrics to Michael's songs on his solo CD (purchase at [internet address]) as well as the thoughts/situations that inspired him to compose each song. There are a lot of rare pictures in here, too. The book is not all sad cancer stuff, though. You also read about his life as a singer/actor and his "normal" school life. The book ends on a happy note that he is finally recovered, but unfortunately, that isn't how Mike's story ends. He died of complications in January of 2000. This is a wonderful story of a heroic boy who would do anything to help the world. I recommend it wholeheartedly! This book is good if you are a fan of Michael (or 2Gether) or even if you just want to learn about cancer -- the book discusses the different medicines/treatments/etc.

Food for the mind as well as the palette
I recently received a copy of The American Century Cookbook. My wife and I have several dust covered recipe books that are largely ignored when it is time to cook up something new. After one quick shuffle through this book however, we found ourself sitting together and going through the book as if it were, well what it is, an intriguing history book that accents its "flavor" with numerous recipes, pictures and facts. Several of my friends, including my parents and my in-laws will be receiving their own copy of this wonderful historical treasure. I may even have to buy myself another copy because my wife likes to dogear pages that she wants to come back to. In this case it would have been easier to dogear those that she did not want to return to.

A delicious culinary chronicle of America's popular foods
Flipping the pages of this cookbook sparked memories of the way we used to eat. Each page overflows with historical lore, delicious recipes, trends, new/old products, info on famous foodies and lots more. I'd suggest taking a culinary trip down memory lane with the latest book from Jean Anderson, an award-winning food writer, whose books I bet most all of us already have on our shelves and what's more important -- use! Not only will you learn about American culinary history by reading THE AMERICAN CENTURY COOKBOOK, you'll also be tempted into the kitchen to create the tastes of the past. It's a scrumptious, thoroughly enjoyable journey. Keep this book within reach to cook from, to learn from and to just relish.

Fantastic book!
I use this book as a reference guide for my high school American History and African American Studies classes. Everything in the world seems to be here including an old favorite from the 1960s, 'Puree Mongole.' This cookbook is easy to read and most recipes are simple to follow. The best part for me, as a Social Studies teacher, is the gem of the history lessons and time lines associated with all the food preparations. A real pleasure and a book that is priceless if you like the history of American cuisine.

Walking in the Garden of Souls: George Anderson's Advice from the Hereafter for Living in the Here and Now

A beautiful, well written look into heaven
When I lost my son in 1996 I grew to hate everything I was taught about religion and the meaning of life. I had the extraordinary good fortune to attend a seminar in Seattle, WA where my son came through. Ever the skeptic, I never even thought I would get to meet George Anderson, let alone have a reading, but my son came through with such force (and even his nickname, "paulimon" which knocked me out) to tell me not to give in to my hatred and to understand that we are only separated temporarily. My heart sang at the words George said. I thought he would be wisked away after the program, but he stayed there as plain as can be signing books and talking to people. I have watched ALL the psychics work, but this man is a living saint. The information was too specific to be a crock, and you need only to look at him to know this is no act. He is gifted beyond measure, and his words brought such joy to the people he did readings for that night. I bought this book for everyone I know who is in pain. It helped mine so much--I still struggle with my loss but the book is like a bandaid for the heart.

A Lovely Walk in Serenity
What a lovely book! The title feels welcoming, and comforting, and explains from George Anderson's whole lives experience....profound wonderful things! "Walking in the Garden of Souls" is a very worthy book, worthy of our time and attention.I wanted to read it all at once, and was interested in every word! As things suddenly became apparent, this gift was given to George just for this moment in time, so he could counsel and educate us on different realms of being, all natural and real, to help soothe our souls and heal our hearts! This is a wonderful and thoughtful walk to happiness...a beautiful place that exists for all of us.

George Anderson and Andrew Barone, who is executive director of the George Anderson Grief Support program, and a co-founder of the Foundation for Hope are two names I had never heard of until now but two names I will remember forever for their kindness in this moment! ...

Very Nice
I read this book over the weekend. I have always liked George Anderson. I have a good feel for people and I can say without a doubt he is very genuine. You can feel the love of the souls from the hereafter reflected right through him. This book is excellent advice for all people. Bereaved or not bereaved. Quite honestly, it's probably some advice we don't want to hear or like to hear but it's what we NEED to hear. I applaud him for helping the people he as helped and for his honesty. I couldn't help thinking as I was reading the book that one day I am going to have to face a more difficult challenge then I ever had before in my life and I hope I remember to pick up this book. I'll need it.

I Say a Prayer for Me: One Woman's Life of Faith and Triumph

Inspired Words
I Say a Prayer for Me is part autobiographical, part self help, and one hundred percent inspirational. Stanice Anderson has shared more than just her life story, but also her personal testimony. She shared her experiences with drug addiction and the lifestyle that goes along with it, as well as her strained relationship with her parents and child. The story chronicles her spiritual journey from addict to the strong Christian that she is today. The book goes far beyond the mere description of events by delving into the emotions related to the decisions she made. Each chapter of the book covers an important emotional lesson, Anderson uses her own life to illustrate a problem and then uses Biblical text to shed light on the lesson she learned. The chapters conclude with a scripture reading and a prayer.

I highly recommend this book because of the variety of subject matter it covers including, relationships with God, parents, children, friends, spouses, and coworkers. Indeed, it has something for everyone. While the format of the book was confusing at times because the experiences were not always presented chronologically, it was still a pleasure to read. Stanice Anderson has truly been blessed and her candor and willingness to share her testimony will be an inspiration for anyone who reads this book.

I Say A Prayer For Me
I read the book and love it!! It is a ten star must read. This book is so inspiring and spirit filled that you have to thank God for bringing it to you and Stanice for writing it. Magnolia: The Shooting Script (Newmarket Shooting Script Series Book)
Published in Hardcover by Newmarket Press (31 January, 2000)
Author: Paul Thomas Anderson
Average review score:

exodus 2:8
A compelling, in depth look at the lives of eight people in suburbia, "Magnolia-the shooting script" is one not to be missed by anyone who considers themselves a true "Magnolia" fan. It has often been stated that Paul Thomas Anderson lacks as a screenwriter but exells as a director. I finished reading "Magnolia" within 90 minutes, and I did not see how anyone could say that. The script pulled me in and kept me reading just like I was watching it on screen. We are offered director's insight into how he wants to see everything on film, and, this being the shooting script (meaning "original"), we are meant to see everything just how it was originally invisioned. We are offered the complete rules on "Seduce and Destroy". We meet the character of "The Worm" who is mentioned and seen only briefly in the film. Reading this script will immediately make anyone feel like he or she is reading a piece of classical American fiction, as well as assure them that they are in the presence of a the greatest natural born film maker since Alfred Hitchcock.

Incredible from scope to screen to script
Admitted, I've not seen the movie. I loved Boogie Nights, which I thought was worlds beyond just "a flick about porno". It was deep, and intriguing, and dark. And this book is no different. These characters are not perfect, nor do they pretend to be. They are real, their emotions are real, and its so unabashadly beautiful how they can do what they feel when they feel it. Some of the writing (especially Frank TJ Mackey's monologues) are downright hilarious.

At first I thought that so many characters would make the story incoherant, harder to conceptualize exactly what was going on. The beauty of scripts, in my opinion, is the fact that you can visualize the film in your head, see the characters doing these things, ESPECIALLY if you haven't seen the movie, which I'm dying to do. Paul Thomas Anderson can't make a bad movie, or a bad script. The three stories intertwine and revolve around one long day in the San Fernando Valley; from the old, disheartened Quiz Kid, the young and new Quiz Kid, from the dying man and his frazzled bride, to the lonely cop with low ambitions. They all circle around one another beautifully, from scene to scene telling you the ultimate story about love, life, and what it means to actually BE there for someone. It doesn't have to be perfect, or beautiful, or meaningful, you can only do the best you can. At moments the script even pokes fun at itself, saying in one situation "this is the part in the movie where you help me out" which I thought was cool and funny and cute at the same time (and the FROGS! The FROGS!...) Don't doubt PT Anderson, his next will probably blow this one away.

But he'll have a hell of a time trying.

Best Published Screenplay EVER
Luckily for me, Paul Thomas Anderson dropped by my favorite bookstore to sign copies of this publication a few days ago. I got a chance to shake the man's hand and tell him what an incredible influence he was on me wanting to write and direct my own films. "Magnolia : The Illustrated Screenplay" has to be the BEST published screenplay EVER. Not only do you get the actual shooting script (as opposed to those cheesy transcriptions of finished movies) but you also get a lengthy, fascinating interview with Anderson as well as a bunch of full color photographs taken behind the scenes of the shoot. But, of course, the best part of the book is the actual writing itself. This screenplay reads more like a complex and quite brilliant novel. As you read, you will undoubtedly be struck with genuine awe at just how Anderson managed to jump back and forth so many times between so many different, multi-layered storylines while still preserving a coherent narrative under the umbrella of a singular underlying theme: redemption. Although he'd be the first to deny it, the man's quite simply a genius.

The Predator
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Katherine A. Applegate and Northam Anderson

4.5 stars really..
Animorphs #5, 'The Predator' just supports my belief that the earlier books in the series are the best. Marco, Cassie, Jake, Rachel and Tobias attempt to assist new recruit Ax to return to the Andalite home world by stealing a Yeerk Bug Fighter. But Marco still isn't sure that having the power to morph is such a good thing. He and his friends keep finding themselves in more and more danger, and Marco decides he's had enough. After the death of his mother affected his Dad so badly, Marco is scared by the thought of leaving him alone. With this in mind, he comes to the decision that this will be his last mission. No more danger, no more Animorphs. But then he discovers a secret that is going to change his mind. And this secret is going to give him real cause to continue the fight...

This book is just another example of why I think the earliest Animorph novels are the best. OK, there are some exceptions, but generally the standard is far better because the books stand on their own with a greater degree of success. Not quite of the five star standard, 'The Predator' comes very close. The introduction of Ax the Andalite brings humour to the book as he struggles with the concepts of taste and speech and the scenes in space are well described. If you enjoyed this book, I would recommend Animorphs #6, "The Capture", which is one of the best Animorph books there is.

A great descriptive book about aliens with cool names

The Predator starts out as Animorphs books always do: with one of the characters who says he can't tell you his last name because of the danger he's in. The danger is from the Yeerks, alien slug parasites who live on peoples' brains and take over their bodies. The animorphs are a group of kids who got morphing power from an alien Andalite and use this power to fight the Yeerks.

In The Predator, the character who tells the story is Marco. Ax, the brother of the Andalite prince who gave the animorphs their power, wants to return to his home planet. Marco, Jake, Cassie, Tobias, and Rachel devise a plan to help him: capturing a Yeerk ship by sending a distress beacon to the Yeerk mother ship.

After they send the distress signal, they turn into their most powerful morphs so that they can fight the Yeerks more easily. When the Yeerk ship comes, out walk two Hork-Bajir warriors. The animorphs attack the two Hork-Bajir, but when they finish they find themselves surrounded by more warriors with dreakon beams. The animorphs are taken to the Yeerk blade ship, where Marco gets the surprise of his life when he meets the Yeerk leader, Visser 1. With its help, the animorphs find an escape pod and zoom off.

A I really like the Animorphs series because their are very descriptive and the authors make up great names for things.

"In My Sisters Shoes"
This book is a must read, I purchased an additional copy to share with my sister. Like myself, my sister has found so many similarities to her own life experiences. The book is very inspirational, this author will have a very successful future. Looking forward to her next.

One Size Does Fit All!
In My Sister's Shoes is not just another self-help book. It touches on real life situations that every woman has experienced in one way or another. The selections let you know that someone else has walked in your shoes; it gives another way of looking at your situation; most of all it lets you know that there is always hope. The recommended songs, reading passages, and scriptures add life to the content of each selection. This book is a worthy addition to anyone's collection--women and men!

Love at first read!
In My Sister's Shoes was such a joy to read! I found it inspirational, amusing and with each turn of the page, I could relate to what was being said. I find myself going back and re-reading sections that touched me and made me think about my life and what I am doing with it. I have passed this book on to both my daughters and have recommended it to many women friends. I highly recommend it!

You did it again Kev and Rebecca!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always loved Star Wars. I was a little ifish about reading the books thinking it wouldn't be as good. How wrong was I. It was cool how Jacen fell off of Cloud City. A very nice touch.his return was also interesting. It was nice how Tenel Ka can be so different when in mourning over her thought to be dead friend. It made her seem more real. If you don't like this book you must be crazy! And that is a fact!

This book was the best Jedi Knights book yet!
In this one, Anja and the Jedi go to Cloud City, and something happens to Lando's friend and partner, Cojahn. The book is about how the young Jedi goabout solving it. It was completely suspenseful. I really thought Jacen was going to die. And it's about time that they admit Tenel Ka is in love with Jacen and vice versa. That's one of the main things I read the book for. Anyway , if you haven't readthis yet, then you're missing out on something REALLY great!

A great addition to the Young Jedi Knights series!
Trouble on cloud city is an awesome continuation of the young Jedi Knights books. The way Kevin and Rebecca describe the character's feelings is what truly makes this book come alive. It brings out all of the subtle emotions that Tenel Ka feels towards Jacen and lets us know that deep down she really cares for him. This book is a must have and an excellent action packed read.

Low Level Hell
Published in Hardcover by Airlife Publishing Ltd (30 November, 1993)
Authors: Hugh L. Mills Jr and Robert A. Anderson
Average review score:

Experience the Vietnam War with the Air Cavalry
Mills' book tells it like it was! I should know, I'm Joe Crockett, his first crewchief mentioned in Chapter Four. I find Hugh Mills' to be a great pilot, and great man, and a great author. This isn't an easy story to tell, but Hugh manages to allow even the novice to the Vietnam War, a chance to ride in the cockpit of a Hughes OH-6A "Loach"! It had been 28 years since Hugh and I flew missions together and reading "Low Level Hell" took me back to a time, rich in experience. I highly reccomend this book to anyone with the slightest interest in Army Aviation and the Vietnam War!

Compelling ......... A Thourghly Candid Account
I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Low Level Hell" by Hugh L. Mills. From July, 1968 to July, 1969 I was with the Big Red One assigned to Alpha Company, 2nd Bn., 16th Infantry. Mills book brought back many memories - both good and bad. It was particularly meaningful for me since A-2/16 worked all over the Division's TAOR and the names of the villages and towns Mills wrote about were familiar to me. I have often remarked that the BRO's air support was exceptional and reading "Low Level Hell" reminded me of that once again. It also gave me a better understanding and appreciation of the role of the hunter / killer teams and how they were a major factor in minimizing casualties. To quote from the book "First Infantry Division in Vietnam" at page 126: "As the year 1968 was about to pass into history, the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry reviewed the year with a profound sense of pride. Much was accomplished but they were not content to rest upon past laurels. The year 1969 was met with the same loyalty, skill and determination which made the 1st Squadron, 4th United States Cavalry the most respected and feared unit of the 1st Infantry Division." - I know from reading "Low Level Hell" that Hugh Mills and the rest of Troop D (air) significantly contributed to the loyalty, skill and determination that earned the reputation that has become legendary.

I think "Low Level Hell" would make an excellent movie. There's lots of action sequences: The chemistry between Hugh Mills and Rod Willis would play well not to mention the camaraderie among Troop D (air) at Phu Loi. I hope it will be playing some day soon at a theatre near me - And, I will keep my eye out for another Mills book chronicling his and Willis' second tour with "Darkhorse" and, if we're lucky, a third one all about his days as a Cobra pilot with the 101st.

Low Level Hell - A Scout Pilot in the Big Red One
Excellent book about some of the dedicated aviators that supported us infantrymen in the Big Red One in Vietnam. As a LRRP in Co.F/52nd Inf. (LRP), 1st Inf. Division in 1968, I always felt that we had tremendous helicopter support. Our LRP company originated as a part of 1st Sq./4th Cavalry, and they regarded us and watched over us from above like brothers. We often called upon the Cobra gunships of D Troop (Air), 1st Sq./4th Cav, call sign: Darkhorse, and they never let us down. Mills book provides us with a cockpit view of their hunter-killer team missions, as opposed to the direct gun-ship support role in which we generally saw Darkhorse. But the 'guns blazing' tactics were obviously the same for the scout ship pilots as they always were for the gunship pilots/co-pilots. Very interesting reading, and the place names brought back many exciting memories of those days over 30 years ago, when we ourselves operated around Phu Loi, Lai Khe , An Loc, the Iron Triangle, Catchers Mitt, and other locations he mentions. Knowing that Darkhorse pilots like Mills always 'had our back', was a reassuring feeling. Could not possibly express enough gratitude to such pilots and crews for the way they supported us. An excellent addition to any Vietnam library.

The 2001 Multi-Diet : Taming the Food Beast
Published in Paperback by Hamilton/Wolcott Publishing, LLC (March, 2001)
Author: Anderson A. Anonymous
Average review score:

Finally I¿ve gotten control of food
This book is funny to read and very detailed about its subject, but most importantly, it's the only diet that's ever worked for me! I've always been out of control with food. I'd think about it constantly and always be planning what and where I was going to eat next. It was my way of life and I was miserable. I've been on so many diets that at first I didn't take this one seriously even though my wife talked me into trying it. Then one day I realized I'd gotten through the whole morning without thinking about lunch once. That sure got my attention! I re-read the book and decided to get serious and really try to fit those ideas into my life. I made a few mistakes at first, but I learned from them and now food just doesn't control me anymore. I stay on the diet. I keep losing weight. When the food thoughts start I know exactly what to eat to stop them without breaking my diet. I have a lot of weight to lose, but now I know it's just a matter of time before it's all gone. I wish everyone could feel what it's like to go from miserable and helpless to knowing (knowing!) how to have control again. There's nothing like that feeling!

This diet works and I love the book's humor.
It's a pleasure just to read somebody with a sense of humor about weight loss. I've gotten so tired of these deadly dull, "oh-so-serious" diet book authors saying all the "correct" things and telling "stupid little me" stuff I've already heard a thousand times, (and which doesn't work) that I'd recommend it for that reason alone. But the fact is, this diet does work!

It used to be that whenever I drove down the street, I'd think about pulling into almost every fast-food restaurant I passed. Now I don't even notice them anymore! I eat what I'm supposed to eat and my interest in food just disappears. Sometimes I almost miss it - NOT!

I do think this author has taken a risk in daring to use "tongue in cheek" humor the way he does, since there are so many humorless people out there who just "won't get it". The guy who took the comments on jellybeans seriously is clearly in that category. But most of the people I know love low-keyed humor and he's obviously writing for people like us.

Finally I understand why!
This book has been like magic for both my mind and my body. I weigh 250 pounds and for the first time I understand why it happened and what to do about it. That alone has been an intense relief. I used to think either I was a weak-willed, spineless person or that I was sick in some way. Now I know it's neither because I've been doing this diet for 7 weeks and the changes have been so dramatic. The way I used to eat (which was "normal" for me) was practically starving my body for everything it needed except Calories. Now, because of the Multi-Diet I am doing exactly the opposite. I know how to give my body plenty of all the things it needs without the Calories. And my weight is dropping like a stone with no hunger and no side effects! I lost 20 pounds in my first month. My energy level has gone way up. I don't have trouble breathing anymore like I sometimes used to. A lot of other little physical problems seem to be going away. I can't recommend this method highly enough. Thank you, Dr. Anonymous, whoever you are!
